چکیده

We consider the notion of strong equivalence [V. Lifschitz, D. Pearce, A. Valverde, Strongly equivalent logic programs, ACM Transactions on Computational Logic 2(4):526–541, 2001] of normal propositional logic programs under the infinite-valued semantics [P. Rondogiannis, W.W. Wadge, Minimum model semantics for logic programs with negation-as-failure, ACM Transactions on Computational Logic 6(2):441–467, 2005] (which is a purely model-theoretic semantics that is compatible with the well-founded one). We demonstrate that two such programs are strongly equivalent under the infinite-valued semantics if and only if they are logically equivalent in the corresponding infinite-valued logic. In particular, we show that strong equivalence of normal propositional logic programs is decidable, and more specifically coNP-complete. Our results have a direct implication for the well-founded semantics since, as we demonstrate, if two programs are strongly equivalent under the infinite-valued semantics, then they are also strongly equivalent under the well-founded semantics.

A Sufficient Condition for Strong Equivalence Under the Well-Founded Semantics

We consider the problem of strong equivalence [1] under the infinite-valued semantics [2] (which is a purely model-theoretic version of the well-founded semantics). We demonstrate that two programs are now strongly equivalent if and only if they are logically equivalent under the infinite-valued logic of [2]. In particular, we show that for propositional programs, strong equivalence is decidabl...

Equivalences in Answer-Set Programming by Countermodels in the Logic of Here-and-There

In Answer-Set Programming different notions of equivalence, such as the prominent notions of strong and uniform equivalence, have been studied and characterized by various selections of models in the logic of Here-and-There (HT). For uniform equivalence however, correct characterizations in terms of HTmodels can only be obtained for finite theories, respectively programs. In this paper, we show...

On Equivalences in Answer-set Programming by Countermodels in the Logic of Here-and-there

Different notions of equivalence, such as the prominent notions of strong and uniform equivalence, have been studied in Answer-Set Programming, mainly for the purpose of identifying programs that can serve as substitutes without altering the semantics, for instance in program optimization. Such semantic comparisons are usually characterized by various selections of models in the logic of Here-a...

Logic Programs under Three-Valued Lukasiewicz Semantics

If logic programs are interpreted over a three-valued logic, then often Kleene’s strong three-valued logic with complete equivalence and Fitting’s associated immediate consequence operator is used. However, in such a logic the least fixed point of the Fitting operator is not necessarily a model for the program under consideration. Moreover, the model intersection property does not hold. In this...
